I wanted to walk you through scheduling a newborn session, the prep work for the session and the actual session itself. Newborn sessions to me are so cozy and peaceful. I will be incredibly patient with your little one and work to get the images you want. Once you have decided that I am a good fit for you as a photographer I put the date in my calendar when your baby is due. My stylist Lauren from Stylelink by Lauren will help you choose outfits for the entire family, this is typically done before the baby is born. She helps put your outfits together as well as adding in props (blankets, hats and headbands, etc) that will coordinate with the family. Once your little one is born, you email me and we select a date that works for both of our calendars. This is preferably within the first 10 days if you want those dreamy, sleepy shots of your baby.
For most of my newborn sessions, the sessions are done in my client's home to make it easier for my client and make it more personal to them. At their home, they are free to feed the baby or change whenever he or she needs it. This makes the sessions more cozy and more comfortable for everyone. We choose a space in the house that has good lighting. Ideally, I want the space to focus on the parents and the new baby without many distractions. I let the sweet little one guide the session. If he or she needs to be held we do family or individual parent shots. If the little one is content, I will get images of him or her alone and/or with a sibling. When the baby needs to eat, she eats and when the baby needs to be changed, she's changed. I work within the 2-3 hours (more time with my newborn sessions than my family sessions) to get the images you want.
It is such a memorable time for parents that it is great to capture on camera to document the moments forever.
If you are expecting or know of someone expecting, contact me below and I can share more details about the session with you. As an added bonus, I offer a free maternity or baby session when you purchase a newborn session.
